MedECC is happy to take part in the event “Charting the Path towards a Sustainable Blue Economy: The Mediterranean Leading the Way”, organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) during the Mediterranean Day under the framework of the 3rd United Nations Conference on Oceans (UNOC-3), hosted by France and co-convened with Costa Rica. The session will take place on 10 June 2025 in Nice, France, at the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen (CUM).
This high-level segment will showcase the region’s leadership in implementing concrete, scalable, and inclusive solutions for sustainable ocean development. It aims to demonstrate how the Mediterranean can serve as a global model for integrated blue economy governance, innovative financing, and cross-sectoral cooperation. It will bring together representatives from Mediterranean countries, international financial institutions, EU bodies, and civil society to explore synergies in marine decarbonisation, biodiversity protection, blue jobs, and circular economy.
Dr. Katarzyna Marini, Lead Science Officer at the MedECC Secretariat, will contribute to Session 2 under the panel “Pollution, Restoration, and Circularity.” She will present the MedECC network and highlight its latest contributions on climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean region.
This engagement reflects MedECC’s ongoing commitment to support science-based policymaking and multilateral cooperation for a healthier, more resilient Mediterranean Sea.
Mediterranean Day is a special event held within the framework of UNOC-3, convened by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the Varda Group.
