Ourania Tzoraki is Professor of River Basin and Coastal Zone Management at the University of the Aegean (UAEGEAN) in Greece.

Environmental sustainability is the central focus of Professor Tzoraki’s research, with particular emphasis on water systems and their resilience to climate extremes.

Her recent work addresses water resources management, water quality and health, river flood forecasting and mitigation, ecohydrological modeling, climate change impacts, and the ecosystem services of intermittent rivers.

Within the Marine Science Department at the UAEGEAN, her activities also encompass the sustainable management of touristic beaches, evaluation of carrying capacity in coastal wetlands, monitoring of eroded coastal heritage sites and aimed at reducing infrastructure vulnerability.

She develops flood early-warning models using neural networks and simulates river basins with widely used public-domain tools such as SWAT and HEC-HMS.

In parallel, she conducts extensive fieldwork, employing drones and sensor networks to collect high-resolution environmental data.
