The 9th Our Ocean Conference took place in Athens, Greece on April 15-17, 2024, with the aim of reaffirming its commitment to transition to a “Blue economy” to harness the advantages of a new balance between economic development (growth), social cohesion, and sustainability as well as addressing some key challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change, unsustainable fishing, marine pollution especially from plastics, and unsustainable maritime transport.
Anna Pirani (CMCC, Italy), co-chair of MedECC, was invited to the side-event “Ocean reporting in support of the ocean and climate nexus” to present a talk on “The Ocean in the Mediterranean Sea climate assessment report MedECC”. She delivered a compelling presentation, emphasizing MedECC’s mission to inform the implementation of solutions aligned with sustainable development goals and to reinforce the vital connection between a healthy environment and wellbeing in the Mediterranean region.
