The 21st Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) Steering Committee was held on on 13-14 May 2020 (through a teleconference). The meeting followed the COP 21 of the Barcelona Convention (December 2019), where decisions related to pollution and marine litter, biodiversity and marine protected areas, integrated coastal zone management, sustainable development and various assessment studies were adopted, including the UNEP/MAP Programme of Work and Budget for 2020-2021 and a roadmap for the proposal of a possible designation of the Mediterranean Sea as an Emission Control Area for Sulphur Oxides.
One of the MedECC Coordinators, Joel Guiot (CEREGE, CNRS), presented the MedECC and the main results of the First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1). The MCSD is invited to participate to the consultation with gouvernements representatives, policymakers and stakeholders on the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of MAR1. This consultation is open until the end of June 2020.
