Dr Inġ. Brian Azzopardi is Senior Lecturer II at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) and Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta (UM). His interdisciplinary research focuses on assessing the impact, integration, and lan for mitigation policies for high penetration of photovoltaic systems and electric vehicles using energy informatics and real-life data, inter-laboratory studies, networks, and scenarios. Since 2011, he has held senior academic and research positions in the United Kingdom, Lithuania and Malta. He has also served the industry, government agencies and ministries and research centers since 1998.

He is the editor and author of over 100 books, chapters, and articles. In 2014, he founded the MCAST Energy to address the energy transition challenges and opportunities specifically on island states like Malta. He is the Coordinator of several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects, including JUMP2Excel, NEEMO, TRANSIT, and PROMISE.

He is the co-Founder and Chairman of The Foundation for Innovation and Research – Malta. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of The IET, EI, RSC and Chamber of Engineers. He is also the recipient of the MCST-JRC Young Scientist Award and STEM Young Researchers Award. He holds a PhD from The University of Manchester (2011).
