Dear Colleagues !
We hope that you and your dear ones are healthy and safe.
We have the pleasure to inform you that the final version of 1st Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) and its Summary for Policymakers (SPM) are now available.

Several new media highlights on MedECC and 1st Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) has been recently published.
MedECC now embarks on the next step by focusing on several specific ‘burning issues’ of concern in the region through the development of several Special Reports. The call for self-nominations of potential Lead Authors for these MedECC Special Reports on the following issues related to climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean Basin was recently launched (closed on 15 May 2021):
  • Coastal risks,
  • The climate-water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus,
  • Environmental change, conflict and human migration.
The MedECC Steering Committee will soon proceed to the selection of authors, which will be followed by thematic scoping.

In March 2021 Plan Bleu (UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Center) and Union for the Mediterranean signed the second bilateral agreement covering the 2021-2023 period to jointly support the MedECC. Plan Bleu recently changed its association statutes, which now indicates officially that Plan Bleu hosts the MedECC Scientific Secretariat.
As of this month, the MedECC Scientific Secretariat is strengthened by the arrival of science officer Dr Julie Gattacceca, environmental scientist specialized in geochemistry and hydrological processes. This has been made possible through the new contract for MedECC technical assistance signed with the Union for the Mediterranean and support from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) covering the period from June 2021 until December 2023. Julie will join Dr Kasia Marini (presently employed by Plan Bleu) in the management of the MedECC Scientific Secretariat.

MedECC Coordinators: Wolfgang Cramer and Joel Guiot
MedECC Science Officer: Kasia Marini

INITIATIVES IN THE REGION
