We share with you the update on the MedECC activities and our progresses on the Special Reports.
|
The First Order Draft of the MedECC Special Report on environmental and climate coastal risks has been finalised and the external review by peer-scientists and experts has been launched (deadline: 18 July 2023). In parallel the consultation with governments, decision-makers and stakeholders on the draft of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) has been launched. The First Order Draft of the MedECC Special Reports on climate-water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus and of the MedECC Special Report on environmental change, conflicts and human migration and their draft of the SPM are being finalised. The call for experts to become an external reviewer of the report on climate-water-energy-food-ecosystems nexus is open. You may find more details here below and on the MedECC website.

This period was also very rich in events! The MedECC was invited to participate in a certain number of high-level policy events that brought together a wide range of major Mediterranean stakeholders: representatives of the contracting parties to the Barcelona Convention, of Union for the Mediterranean members, local authorities, intergovernmental organisations, civil society, parliamentarians, etc. This provided a productive media coverage with the MedECC and its work being cited in several new media releases. During the 20th meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD), (14-16 June 2023), speaking on behalf of France, which succeeded Slovenia in assuming the presidency of the MCSD for a two-year mandate, H.E. Hervé Berville, State Secretary for the Sea, delivered the welcome address, and announced as one of their priority the strengthening of the scientific knowledge and expertise, notably by supporting Plan Bleu (the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre based in Marseille) and the MedECC (Press Release). The Declaration of the Presidents of the member institutions on drought and Water Management published by the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion (EPM) makes a reference to the MedECC. The MedECC was also a partner for the Mediterranean Climate change Adaptation Awards 2023. This contest is organised by French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) in partnership with Union for the Mediterranean, Plan Bleu, Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories (AViTeM), in association with the Association of Mediterranean Agencies for energy management (MEDENER) and Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).
