The conference, coorganised by MISTRALS, Plan Bleu and MedECC, will cover a broad range of topics, including : evolution of the Mediterranean climate in the 21st century and its impacts on the environment, extreme events, water resources management and amplification of droughts, links between pollution and health, fluxes of contaminants from water, air and soil into living organisms, proliferation of invasive species on land and at sea and loss of biodiversity.

The revised Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) was the object of the plenary consultation with policymakers, governments, decision-makers and stakeholders, which took place on 22 September 2020 (in Marseille, France and online).

From 21 to 23 September 2020 Africa 21 organized a workshop on the prevention of risks of natural disasters and climate change in Maghreb (in French: “La prévention des risques de catastrophes et changement climatique au Maghreb”) for journalists.

One of the main highlights of the 2020 UfM Climate Week was the presentation of the progress of the first scientific report on the risks associated to climate and environmental changes in the Mediterranean (1st Mediterranean Assessment Report, MAR1, carried out by the MedECC network).

The 21st Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) Steering Committee was held on on 13-14 May 2020 (through a teleconference). The meeting followed the COP 21 of the Barcelona Convention (December 2019).
